The game itself meant very little. When the first pitch was thrown, the Royals led the Minnesota Twins by 11.5 games and the Tigers by 12.5 games. Yes, they need to win games to close out the division and to maintain the best record in the AL, but in the grand scheme of things, tonight’s game was just another game to mark off the calendar as the Royals look ahead to the playoffs in a couple months. For one night, though, it was more than that.
