Now that Cedric Tallis, the Royals' first general manager, and architect of their early success has been inducted into the Royals Hall of Fame, I need to find a new windmill to tilt at.
My other pet project over the years has been for the club to bestow some type of recognition on George Spriggs. Spriggs’ contract was purchased by Tallis from the Pittsburgh Pirates in October of 1968. Spriggs’ career with the Royals was sparse, more on that later, but that’s not what’s important. The important thing is that Spriggs is the only player in Royals history to also play in the Negro Leagues.
