The Royals have reportedly re-signed shortstop Alcides Escobar, a move first reported by FanRag reporter Robert Murray and confirmed by ESPN’s Buster Olney as a one-year, $2.5 million deal. The move raised some questions, since the Royals already have former top prospect Raúl Mondesí at shortstop. Although the switch-hitter struggled mightily in April with the Royals, he went down to Omaha and hit .305/.340/.539 with 13 home runs in 85 games.
General Manager Dayton Moore confirmed the signing today at FanFest, and in speaking with Carrington Harrison and Brad Fanning on The Drive on 610 Sports this afternoon, he clarified the shortstop situation.
