Gee is the likely Royals’ starter Sunday

Dillon Gee is expected to be the Royals starting pitcher for Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners.

Manager Ned Yost said before Saturday’s game the Gee will get the ball if he isn’t pressed into service on Saturday.Gee will take the spot in the rotation that had been occupied by Chris Young, who surrendered six earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in his previous start, on July 5 at Toronto, to push his season ERA to 6.90.

Surrendering home runs has been Young’s biggest misfortune. He’s yielded an AL-leading 26 home runs in 60 innings.

Gee, used mostly in long relief in his first season with the Royals entered Saturday having made 17 appearances and four starts.
