A lot of things have contributed to the Royals having racked up more loss than any Major League team this century, but a staple of each catastrophic season has been the losing streak. Every failed season has one.
The 2005 team infamously lost 19 in a row. The 2006 team lost 13 in a row. The 2008 team lost 12 in a row. The 2012 team lost 12 in a row. The 2021 team that started 15-8 had their promising season ended by an 11 gamer.
Most really bad teams have irreconcilable flaws, but a Kansas City Royals losing streak has a way of sucking the air out of the entire city and dooming a season before it feels like it began.
