SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Jarrod Dyson, who was in line to be the Royals' Opening Day starter in right field, will be out six weeks because of a Grade 2 oblique strain, the Royals said on Thursday.
Dyson injured the oblique on Wednesday in the Cactus League opener while swinging in his first at-bat. He ran gingerly to first base and was removed after the inning.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Paulo Orlando would be next in line for a shot at the starting job, though rookies Brett Eibner, Bubba Starling, Jose Martinez and veterans Reymond Fuentes and Travis Snider also will have a shot.
