DETROIT -- Right-hander Johnny Cueto's outing on Wednesday night was the type of performance the Royals envisioned they would receive consistently when they traded for the ace at the non-waiver Trade Deadline.
The result, though, not so much. Cueto surrendered just two runs on five hits over seven innings, but Kansas City's offense sputtered in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park.
It was Cueto's second quality start in as many opportunities since being acquired from the Reds, but he remained winless with his new club.
"I thought he was great," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
