Cole Ragans tossed three shutout innings and Jac Caglianone homered as the Royals pounded 12 hits in a 9-3 win over the Cubs Thursday night.
Ragans had struggled through two spring training outings, but he was sharp tonight. He mowed down nine of the ten Cubs hitters he faced, many of which were their regulars. He struck out six hitters and allowed just a single to Seiya Suzuki.
Royals hitters went quietly in the first three innings against Cubs starter Ben Brown with nine up, nine down, but they finally broke through in the fourth. Kyle Isbel led off with a double, and Michael Massey drove him home with a double of his own.
