It sure looked like Mike Moustakas might have been able to make his return to Kansas City, but he was transferred to the 60-day IL a couple weeks ago, so no such luck. Instead, the Reds are coming to KC in a position that it sort of seemed like the Royals would be in up until their complete nosedive over the last month. They’re on the general edge-ish of the playoff race, hovering around .500 and hoping for a hot streak that puts them into the bigger picture. You can argue whether it’s better to be hovering with faint hope or to be bad enough that you get a top ten pick, but during the season, I think I’d take the Reds situation.
