Now that the potential loss of Salvador Perez has sunk in, it’s time to look at the implications of his absence. First and foremost is the offense that Perez brought to the Royals. Though he hasn’t been the strong, consistent hitter he was at the beginning of his career, the power he brought will be missed.
That could prove tough to live with.
Perez has been banged up a few times in the past few seasons. It is clear that its time for the Royals to start grooming a replacement. It may be inevitable that Perez will see himself as more of a DH with the occasional start at first base instead of a regular backstop.
