Cain out of starting lineup to rest wrist, hand

MINNEAPOLIS -- Although manager Ned Yost had previously been hopeful to get outfielder Lorenzo Cain back in his lineup for Monday's series opener against the Twins, Cain was out for the fifth straight game as he continued to battle soreness and inflammation in his left wrist and hand.

"He's definitely getting better," Yost said. "I don't want to push it."

According to Yost, Cain has been playing catch and throwing, but he was only allowed to swing a bat starting Monday. The Royals have continued to look for progress with Cain's hand strength, which has shown "at least 50 percent" improvement over the last two days.
