"It was a great at-bat," Royals manager Ned Yost said in an in-game interview. "[He] kept fighting off pitches and finally got a pitch he could handle and put it up in the seats. But it was a phenomenal at-bat."
Cain's solo blast to deep left field came on the 10th pitch of the at-bat on a 2-2 slider. It left the bat at 104 mph and went a projected 423 feet, according to Statcast™ data. Keuchel had allowed just four homers at home in 129 1/3 innings this season.
Keuchel, though, was able to get out of a jam later in the inning after Kendrys Morales reached on an error from third baseman Luis Valbuena.
