Bobby Witt Jr., Seth Lugo win Gold Glove Awards

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and pitcher Seth Lugo each won their first career Gold Glove as winners were announced Sunday night.

Witt beat out Brayan Rocchio of the Guardians and Anthony Volpe of the Yankees to take home his first Gold Glove Award. He led all American League shortstops in Defensive Runs Above Average and Outs Above Average. The third-year player started 160 games at short, more than anyone in baseball and was involved in 73 double plays, third-most among shortstops.

Lugo is just the second Royals pitcher to win the award, joining Bret Saberhagen in 1989.
