Christmas is over and free agency is still crawling along. Recently there have been a lot of tweets and other social media posts flying around wondering if baseball owners are colluding against the players. Compared to recent years spending is definitely down as pointed out by our own Shaun Newkirk:
Total money spent by Christmas in each of the past five offseasons:
2013: $1.2B
2014: $1.22B
2015: $1.47B
2016: $1.07B
2017: $467M
Slow offseason so far... pic.twitter.com/wh7c06wvS6— Shaun Newkirk (@Shauncore) December 21, 2017Shaun isn’t necessarily accusing anyone of collusion and may not have even been considering the possibility.
