When they Royals signed Alex Rios to a one-year deal for $11 million, including a buyout on a mutual option for 2016, they were gambling on the 34-year old being healthy following an injury-riddled 2014 season that led to him hitting just 4 home runs. It may not have been a spectacular move, but it seemed reasonable to think Rios could provide something close to league-average numbers if he was fully healed.
Unfortunately, that gamble worked for all of one week.
The Twins’ J.R. Graham hit Rios on the hand on April 13, breaking a bone, and derailing what might have been a productive season.
