After more than a quarter of the season, the Kansas City Royals had won 2/3 of their games. They had scored 70 more runs than they allowed. They looked like the most complete team in all of baseball. A lot of that was on the strength of an offense hitting .289/.338/.437 and scoring five runs per game. Since that date, they’re 1-6 and they’ve scored multiple runs in a game just twice. The runs per game numbers are bad, and that’s with an eight run outburst mixed in.
With a starting rotation that has been shaky at best, the Royals have found themselves in a position that they needed their offense to be good in order to win.
