Opening Day is nearly here for the defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals, as the focus has finally shifted from MLB front offices to the players on the field. However, there's still some activity from the MLB Hot Stove to work through. With that in mind, here are the latest Royals rumors and news for March 30th.
Ian Kennedy leaves start with hamstring tightness
Pitcher Ian Kennedy was forced to leave his final Spring Training start on Wednesday after just three innings with tightness in his left hamstring, the team announced. He is expected to make his season debut on Tuesday in the second game of a two-game series at Kaufman Stadium against the Mets, but that start is now in doubt. The extent of his injury will not be known until he evaluated by team trainers, which is expected to happen on Thursday.
Kennedy spent time on the 15-day disabled list last year after experience hamstring tightness after his first start of the season.
Jarrod Dyson to stay with Royals until rehab stint starts
Outfielder Jarrod Dyson hasn't played since straining his oblique in the first game of Spring Training, but that won't stop him from attending the team's Opening Day ceremony on Sunday, followed by the World Series ring ceremony on Tuesday before going to rehab.
"I think I'm going to stay in Kansas City until I'm ready to go out on rehab I'm already closing in on my time," Dyson said. "Plus it's all about how your body feels. I'm in a good spot. I want to give it another week to see where I'm at. By the time Spring Training ends, and then the next week, I could be ready [for an injury rehab assignment].
"I can't say the pain is all gone. The scar tissue is breaking up and it causes a pinch or pain. But once I get warmed up, I'll be OK."
Dyson hit .250 with two home runs and 18 RBIs with 26 stolen bases in 90 games last season.
