The new deal will kick in starting with the 2017 season, keeping Perez under contract with the Royals until he is 31 years old.
The reigning World Series MVP Salvador Perez has been one of the best bargains in baseball, signing his previous deal with Kansas City in 2012, giving him $7 million a year for the first five years and then three club-option years that had a combined worth of $14.75 million. However, this extension is expected to kick in immediately, giving him a pay raise.
Perez is one of the best defensive catchers in the game, but also had perhaps his best year at the plate in 2015, batting .260 with 21 home runs and 70 RBIs.
