You can’t win them all every single month of every single baseball season, and these next three guys are living proof of that. Amid swirling trade rumors heading towards the July 31st deadline, here’s our list of 3 Kansas City Royals Players Who Have Been A Disappointment So Far In 2015.
RF Alex Rios
The Royals' starting lineup has been humming along all season long, but Rios has been an unmitigated failure in the middle of all the good will. One of Kansas City's key signing of the offseason, Rios has sputtered at the plate in 40 games with the Royals -- posting an anemic .228/.255/.268 slash line with one home run and 12 RBIs. Even more telling, his .523 OPS is an eye-popping 233 points lower than his career average
2B Omar Infante
The veteran middle infielder remains a commodity due to his dependable work in the field, but his struggles at the plate have created a black hole in the bottom of the Royals' lineup. Slashing just .232/.243/.304 with no home runs and 24 RBIs, Infante's been unable to sustain a streak of average hitting, let along good hitting for long in 2015. So much for that All-Star selection...
RHP Jeremy Guthrie
Guthrie has been solid over his past three starts (2-0 with an ERA under 3.50), but that doesn't erase a topsy-turvy first three months or so. His 11-run, one-inning shellacking at the hands of the Yankees on Memorial Day is the biggest eyebrow-raiser, but his inconsistency has been a problem all year as he's pitched to a troubling 5.36 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 17 starts.
