ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- From the time they signed free agent Priest Holmes in 2001, the Kansas City Chiefs have had one of the NFL’s premier runners in their backfield. Holmes was eventually replaced by Larry Johnson and Johnson by Jamaal Charles, and life in Kansas City was good at running back for a long period of time.
The Chiefs are heading into a season without any of those players for the first time in almost two decades. They’re hoping what they lack in their usual top-end quality, they’ll make up for in depth.
