Alex Smith is a lightning rod for the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans. Some will defend his play to the death, while others are seemingly ready to fight in a steel cage if it means a new quarterback.
Smith’s contract tells us that the earliest general manager John Dorsey would move on from Smith is after next season, since his salary cap hit would be outrageous this offseason with a release. With that in mind, would Dorsey pull the trigger on a quarterback in the first or second round, knowing the youngster would likely be sitting on the bench for a year and not improving the current club in such a critical year?
