As the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph comes to an end this week, one question remains: who will be the next cornerback in line after Trent McDuffie?
Third-year cornerback Joshua Williams has taken the bulk of the reps throughout camp, but that might have been out of necessity. Jaylen Watson — who played more snaps than Williams in 2023 — was sidelined when camp began and has had limited participation since his return. Nazeeh Johnson has also missed time; he’s twice left practices with injuries.
This preseason, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has made it clear that he prefers one individual assert themselves as the team’s second cornerback.
