The second half of the most promising Chiefs season in years is about more than merely winning the division for the first time since 2010. That is a goal, yes, but even while playing in football’s toughest division, it remains something like an errand to run on the way to a more important meeting.
The goal here is a first-round bye, but even that may undersell it. The Chiefs, with six wins halfway through the season, want the AFC’s top seed.
This is not a vanity play. This is, in their minds, the key to making it to the franchise’s first Super Bowl in 47 years.
