KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs have restructured the contracts of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones, freeing up $49.446 million in salary cap space, a source told ESPN's Field Yates on Wednesday.
The moves were needed to clear the cap space to needed to cover the Chiefs' activity in recent weeks. They placed the franchise tag on guard Trey Smith and re-signed linebacker Nick Bolton and wide receiver Hollywood Brown.
They also added in free agency, most notably picking up offensive tackle Jaylon Moore and cornerback Kristian Fulton.
