Despite significant improvement down the stretch in 2019 from the Kansas City Chiefs defense, the second level of the defense is still in need of help.
In his first season as defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo transformed this defense to one of the better units against the pass in 2019. Most of that success came from the change in coaching staff implementing a new scheme. At the same time, another major contributor would be the new safety duo, including Tyrann Mathieu and rookie Juan Thornhill.
The linebackers deserve some credit as well, as the unit improved as the season went along with the rest of the defense.
