When the Kansas City Chiefs traded Alex Smith earlier this week to the Washington Redskins for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third round choice in the 2018 NFL Draft, it was a bittersweet moment for Chiefs Kingdom.
On the one hand, the timing seemed perfect given the investment in Patrick Mahomes and the fact that Smith was entering the last year of his contract. He was coming off of a career year, and it wasn’t surprising to see teams lined up to trade for him. On the other hand, it’s hard to watch a quarterback who has given so much of himself on and off the field to the Kansas City community walk away.
