KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Not all of the news surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs and anterior cruciate ligaments is bad. The Chiefs, for instance, are expecting running back Jamaal Charles back at full strength in time for the start of training camp in July.
The same goes for cornerback Phillip Gaines, who is the most logical candidate to replace departed free agent Sean Smith in the starting lineup.
Both players tore an ACL last season -- Gaines in late September and Charles two weeks later.
“They aren’t ready right now, as we didn’t think they would be," Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said.
