A week ahead of the NFL’s “legal tampering period” beginning next Monday, March 10, the Kansas City Chiefs’ fans are largely fixated on pending unrestricted free agents — and contract negotiations with guard Trey Smith, who unexpectedly received a $23.4 million franchise tag last week.
But general manager Brett Veach will also have some minor decisions to make before the new league year begins on Wednesday, March 12. He will have to decide whether the team will make contract tenders to five pending restricted free agents (RFA): cornerbacks Nazeeh Johnson and Keith Taylor, defensive end Malik Herring, linebacker Jack Cochrane and tight end Peyton Hendershot.
