Derrick Johnson was originally slated to return from an Achilles tendon tear in time for training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs. In mid-May the star linebacker says he’s “still on track” for that same timeline as he continues in his recovery.
The Chiefs certainly seem to be relying on the four-time Pro Bowler to return to form, having failed to add any real security to the heart of the defense in case Johnson cannot make it back or return to form for some reason. The Chiefs drafted Ukeme Eligwe, an athletic linebacker from Georgia Southern in the fifth round, but he’s likely to be a practice squad player in the early going.
