The Indianapolis Colts announced that they have hired Chris Ballard as general manager, replacing the fired Ryan Grigson.
Ballard had been the director of football operations for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last week, the Colts had narrowed down their candidates to Colts vice president of football operations Jimmy Raye III, Green Bay director of football operations Eliot Wolf, Seattle co-directors of pro personnel Scott Fitterer and Trent Kirchner, Minnesota assistant general manager George Paton, and Ballard.
Ballard has been with Kansas City since 2013, working with general manager John Dorsey. All four first-round picks by the Chiefs under Ballard and Dorsey -- Eric Fisher, Dee Ford, Chris Jones and Marcus Peters -- have become significant contributors.
