The Chiefs signed running back Spencer Ware from the practice squad to replace Jamaal Charles, the team announced Tuesday.
Ware, 23, is a big back, at 5 feet 10 and 228 pounds, and he impressed during the preseason, rushing 18 times for 66 yards and catching seven passes for 64 yards while playing running back and fullback.
Charles suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a 18-17 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. He was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, which means he will be out for the season.
“Yeah, he’s worked very hard getting himself in that position,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said at a news conference Monday, referring to Ware.
