10:38 a.m. — The Chiefs have waived receiver Fred Williams, a source confirmed.
Analysis: Wow. Williams played his tail off this preseason, catching 13 passes on 13 targets in the first three preseason games and looking like a potentially playable option at wide receiver. But Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that teams normally keep 5-6 receivers, and that wasn’t good news for Williams, who didn’t bring as much versatility on special teams that Frankie Hammond did.
