The Chiefs waived cornerback KeiVarae Russell and re-signed outside linebacker Dezman Moses on Monday, the team announced Wednesday.
The release of Russell, a third-round pick in this year’s draft, is a surprise. He admitted to having difficulty picking up the terminology in a recent interview with The Star, but the current regime has a track record of sticking with its draft picks for at least a year, especially one drafted as highly as Russell, who plays a position of need.
Russell, however, appeared to be the last cornerback on the sixth-man depth chart, as the Chiefs’ sixth-round pick, D.
