The Kansas City Chiefs have veterans Sean Smith, Phillip Gaines, Jamell Fleming and Marcus Cooper, but that will not stop the team from giving rookies Marcus Peters and Steve Nelson a chance to carve out significant roles in their first season.
Smith has been suspended for the season’s first three games for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, and that opens up a starting opportunity with the team interested in playing both youngsters to see what they have.
Also, on the plus side is that both young men are pulling for each other.
“We’ve been roommates ever since we reported to Kansas City," Peters said, via ESPN.
