KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Having called deep throws on the opening plays for each of the Kansas City Chiefs’ first two quarterbacks, coach Andy Reid didn’t want to leave rookie Patrick Mahomes II out of the party.
So Reid asked Mahomes whether he too wanted to chuck the ball deep, on his initial NFL play, in Friday night’s preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes didn’t hesitate before telling Reid that he did.
“Coach Reid asked me if I liked it from what I had seen from the other quarterbacks,’’ Mahomes said after the Chiefs’ 27-17 loss to the 49ers.
