One week into the new league year, the Kansas City Chiefs are widely regarded as one of the early winners of free agency’s first wave. The primary objective, as previously stated, was for general manager John Dorsey to retain talent — mostly defensive — from the 2015 roster. For the most part, that’s exactly what he did. Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Frank Zombo, Jamell Fleming, and Jaye Howard were all re-signed.
The only notable losses were cornerback Sean Smith (across the division to Oakland) and guard Jeff Allen (to the Houston Texans). The team also made key acquisitions in right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and wide receiver Rod Streater.
