The Chiefs must pare their roster from 75 to 53 players by 3 p.m. Saturday. Here’s a running tracker of their cuts with some analysis.
6:47 p.m. — The Chiefs have released safety Jamell Fleming, a source tells The Star.
Analysis: The Chiefs gave Fleming, a former corner, a chance to stick by moving him from corner to safety this offseason. He never made much of a rise in the depth chart, and the emergence of rookie Eric Murray hurt him. Fleming drew a lot of criticism from fans for some of the plays he gave up a year ago, but he was also a valuable special teams player and a very solid gunner on a good unit last season.
