Chiefs appeal penalties for Maclin tampering

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs have appealed their penalty for violating the NFL's anti-tampering policy by having improper contact with Jeremy Maclin before the start of last year's free-agent signing period, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The Chiefs lost a pair of draft picks, a third-rounder this year and a sixth-rounder in 2017, and were fined $250,000. In addition, coach Andy Reid was fined $75,000, and general manager John Dorsey was fined $25,000.

Chairman Clark Hunt indicated when the penalty was handed out that the Chiefs would appeal. Hunt said at the time the penalty was more severe than those handed out in previous tampering cases.
