Speaking to the media on Wednesday, New Year’s Day, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that quarterback Carson Wentz would start the team’s final regular-season matchup away against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
The Chiefs clinched the AFC’s single bye on Christmas Day when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10, so there is no standing to be gained by defeating the Broncos.
Wentz’s start in place of Patrick Mahomes will mark his first start since Week 18 of last season when he was still a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
