This season figured to be the one Mike Catapano put it all together.

The Chiefs must've disagreed. They jettisoned the rotational defensive end to slim their roster down to the 53-man limit last weekend.

That's bad news for the Princeton graduate -- and potentially good new for K.C.'s first opponent, the Houston Texans, a run-first team. The Chiefs figured to attack that offense with a mix-and-match defensive line already; now they're down another trusted veteran.

A more veteran player like Catapano would've helped ease the early absence of star nose tackle Dontari Poe, too.
