KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Clark Hunt’s decision to extend the contract of coach Andy Reid last summer looked both brilliant and suspect at various times this season. The Kansas City Chiefs started the season winning five straight games, then lost six of the next seven before righting themselves to win the last three to clinch the AFC West championship for a second consecutive year, something they’ve never accomplished before.
The midseason slump could have given Hunt pause about the direction of the franchise, but the Chiefs’ chairman has seen a similar slump by the Chiefs under Reid and watched how they responded.
