Broncos’ DeMarcus Ware fined for hit on Chiefs’ Alex Smith

Denver defensive end DeMarcus Ware has been fined $17,363 for his first-quarter hit on quarterback Alex Smith during the Broncos’ 31-24 win over the Chiefs on Sept. 17, a league spokesman confirmed to The Star.

Denver defensive lineman Malik Jackson was also fined $8,681 for his unnecessary roughness penalty on Jamaal Charles in that game.

Ware, who hit Smith below the knees on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, was flagged 15 yards for unnecessary roughness.
