The KC Chiefs may currently not look like potential spenders in the 2014 NFL free agency market (starting March 11th), but their official website is doing something very intriguing to pass the time which raises the question on whether the KC Chiefs are actually buyers after all.
The official KC Chiefs website is profiling a new potential free agent target for the Chiefs each day, and today they stumbled upon what could be an emergency option in Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett.
While the site disclaims that "none of the reports are indicative of the Chiefs plans for 2014," there have been little inklings of rumors circulating that the KC Chiefs could dump DE Tamba Hali and get out from under the $23 million plus cap hit they will incur over the next two years.
If the KC Chiefs were to go that direction, they could potentially work out a deferred bonus package with Michael Bennett, delaying some of the cap hit that his contract would entail.
The other interesting part of this equation is that a Chiefs insider, Reed Ferrin, is the one posting the articles--tailoring the articles to the KC Chiefs fanbase.
While it may be a financial long shot to land the vociferous Bennett after he proclaimed earlier in the offseason that "there is no such thing as a (home team) discount," it is not altogether impossible if the KC Chiefs' offseason goes a different direction than expected.
