The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly missed out on the playoffs despite their 9-7 record in 2014, and they're looking to make the offseason moves necessary to get them back to the postseason. Here are the top players they're targeting in free agency to make that happen:
WR Cecil Shorts
No wide receiver caught a touchdown pass for the Chiefs last season, and they desperately need to find a way to upgrade the position. Even though they already signed Jeremy Maclin, Kansas City really needs to add depth at wide receiver. Shorts put up good numbers in his four years in the league despite being limited by injuries and poor quarterback play in Jacksonville, and is looking for a new start.
DE/LB Brian Orakpo
Kansas City could be in the running for a pass rusher with team unlikely to keep both Justin Houston and Tamba Hali, and Orakpo could be one of the gems of this free agent class. His injury-plagued 2014 season will drive down his price tag, giving the Chiefs the rare opportunity to pick up a 28-year-old three-time Pro Bowler without breaking the bank.
S Louis Delmas
Eric Berry is out of the picture as he receives treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma, so the Chiefs will need to find someone to fill his position while he recovers. Delmas racked up 61 tackles in 13 games for the Dolphins last season and would be a reliable option in the back end of the defense.
