Less than three hours after general manager Dave Caldwell told reporters Tuesday “to anticipate changes” to the Jaguars’ coaching staff, the team fired defensive coordinator Bob Babich.
The Jaguars finished second-to-last in points allowed (28.0 per game) during the just-completed 5-11 season.
Babich, 54, was the Jaguars’ defensive play-caller the last three years and a longtime ally of coach Gus Bradley since their time at North Dakota State in the late 1990s.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, no other Jaguars defensive assistant had been terminated.
The leading in-house candidate to replace Babich is defensive line coach/run-game coordinator Todd Wash.
