The Jaguars’ base defense that is expected to start against Carolina on Sept. 13 will have seven new starters compared to last year’s opener at Philadelphia: Defensive ends Jared Odrick and either Chris Smith/Ryan Davis, outside linebackers Telvin Smith and Dan Skuta, cornerbacks Davon House and Aaron Colvin and free safety Sergio Brown.
The Jaguars promoted Smith midway through last year and got a glimpse of Colvin over the final six games. In the opening day of free agency, they signed Odrick, Skuta, House and Brown.
The goal is to improve a defense that finished 26th in yards and points allowed last year.
