NFL Films has pieced together the lost footage of Super Bowl I

Super Bowl I was played 49 years ago Friday on Jan. 15, 1967.

The game was televised by both NBC and CBS, but the tapes were either recorded or lost by both networks. The same thing happened to the telecast of Super Bowl II. It was routine for the telecasts from the early days of TV to be taped over.

But NFL Films was able to locate all 145 plays of the game from what it says were “more than a dozen disparate sources.’’

It then put the plays together in sequence while fully restoring, re-mastering and color correcting the footage.
