Rashean Mathis has seen his share of first-round picks not work out.
Maybe that’s why the 13-year veteran cornerback wants no part of working in an NFL front office now that his career is over at age 35.
I asked Mathis after his Jaguars retirement ceremony what the key is in evaluating the top corners in any draft.
“It’s so tough for these guys, the GMs,” Mathis said. “It’s a roll of the dice. You can see talent, but this game takes so much more than talent. The mental edge of it and the growth guys can have in the first couple of years means the world.
