Craig Loston was expected to be mainly a special teams player again this year, but with Johnathan Cyprien sidelined with a broken finger, Loston will be the starter at strong safety against the New York Giants Saturday night.
Coach Gus Bradley said Loston will start even though he’s listed behind Josh Evans on the depth chart.
Meanwhile, Loston has been able to concentrate on strong safety. He had 44 defensive snaps Friday night against Pittsburgh and 10 more on special teams. Evans had 33 defensive snaps and eight on special teams.
“I think he’s really surprised us how fast he’s picked it up,’’ Bradley said of Loston.
