The battle to be the Jaguars starting strong safety is over for now.
James Sample is hopeful to relaunch it as training camp progresses.
Sample entered the offseason program with a chance to take over the job from incumbent Johnathan Cyprien. That didn’t happen. Sample didn’t perform well in organized team activities in June and Cyprien came to training camp with a firm hold on his spot.
“In OTAs, he struggled a little bit,” perpetually-positive Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said after Thursday’s practice.
“He struggled picking things up. We thought here’s a great deal with Cyp and Samp competing in there and it separated itself.
